Custom Chat App

The server and most client logic are in Python; the UI uses HTML, CSS, JS, and Python. Users sign up with an email OTP, unique username, and password. They can log in, add friends, update profiles, and chat via messages, voice calls, voice notes, and images. Groups have roles: Creator, Sr Admin, and Admin, each with permissions. All data (messages, calls, files) is end-to-end encrypted on the client, decrypted by the server, re-encrypted for storage, and decrypted again by recipients.

Project Description

This project involved building a full-featured, secure chat application that enables real-time communication through text, voice, and multimedia. The system was designed with a strong focus on data privacy, encryption, and user management.

The server and most of the client-side logic are implemented in Python, while the user interface utilizes HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for a responsive and interactive experience.

Key Features

1. User Authentication and Profile Management

Users register with a verified email OTP process.
Each user has a unique username and a secure password.
Users can log in, update their profiles, and manage their friend lists.

2. Communication Features

One-to-one and group messaging with instant message delivery.
Support for voice calls, voice notes, and image sharing.
Group chats include role-based permissions:
- Creator: Full control over group settings and member management.
- Senior Admin (Sr Admin): Elevated permissions, including managing admins and moderating content.
- Admin: Limited management rights, focused on member moderation and content control.

3. Security and Encryption

All data, including messages, voice calls, and shared files, undergoes end-to-end encryption on the client side.
The encrypted data is decrypted by the server only when necessary for processing.
Before storage, the server re-encrypts the data, ensuring security at rest.
On retrieval, the data is decrypted again by the recipient’s client, maintaining confidentiality and data integrity throughout the communication pipeline.
